    Friday, May 2nd, 2008

We’ve ALL thought about it, we’ve even talked about it to each other once and a while. Well, here is a post for us to discuss/plan a block party!

In meeting neighbors for my little tree project, a lot of people have expressed enthusiasm for a block party. So what are we waiting for? Discuss below…

    Friday, March 28th, 2008

Hi everyone! I just wanted to introduce you to FireStar- it’s FireFlies new music “contest” on Tuesday nights, beginning April 1st. Basically, several bands will play on Tuesday night to compete for the chance to play on Thursday. Customers will be able to vote for their favorite band. The band with the highest number of votes will be invited back for a full gig on Thursday night. All music will be from 6pm-9pm.
It should be a lot of fun!

I hope to see my fellow Nelson Avenue-ers there!!

Any Wizards or Witches out there?

    Thursday, July 19th, 2007

I know that I’m not the only Harry Potter fan on Nelson Avenue who is eagerly anticipating this Friday’s release of the final novel. You are too, right?

I was planning on heading to Barnes & Noble in Potomac Yard for their release party but Rebecca forward this to me which might be more fun:

    “Deathly Hallows Eve Celebration” http://potterpartyoldtown.wordpress.com/tag/event-updates/

From the top of the page:
“Calling all Muggles to King Street in Alexandria for Deathly Hallows Eve!

Before you lock yourself inside to devour the pages of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, come out and party at this street-wide festival filled with Magical Creatures, Divination, Herbology Classes, A Yule Ball and numerous other exciting activities.Merchants up and down King Street in Old Town, Alexandria, Virginia will transform themselves into Potterized businesses: a sweetshop, a care of magical creatures shop, Gringott’s Bank, and more for a night of fun that truly can not be contained in just one venue. There will be live entertainment, costume contests, and much fanfare as the entire town counts down to the release of the final installment of this magical series.”

So put on your wizard robe, apply that fake lightning bolt tatoo and don’t forget your wand and head on down to King Street for a devilishly good time!

    Summer Barbeque

    Wednesday, April 19th, 2006

Hi, I’m Rebecca, and I’m new to Nelson Ave. (Hello!) I live at 529 – you may have seen me strolling around at lunchtime. If not, salutations.

I’ve chatted with a few of our neighbors and we’d like to have a summer cookout/barbeque. I’d be happy to volunteer whatever I can – yard, grill, food – any weekend that’s not Memorial Day. I’m writing (blogging!) to determine interest.

What say you? Shall we have a summer block party? Who’s in? When should we do it? What are you bringing?

You can respond here, e-mail me at rebeccatrela@gmail.com, or drop me a real note. Thanks.

DRCA Meet & Greet – Monday, March 13

    Friday, March 10th, 2006

The DRCA is having it’s 5th annual Meet-and-Greet this Monday night (March 13) at the Mount Vernon Community School @ 7:30pm (in the cafeteria).

What? You don’t know what the DRCA is? You must be new here.
But that’s OK because so am I and something like 1/2 the people on Nelson Ave. are new too. And, that is what the DRCA (Del Ray Citizen’s Association) Meet-and-Greet is all about – getting to know your neighbors.

Hope to see you all there!

    Holiday Open House

    Sunday, December 11th, 2005

While I was out bombarding the neighborhood this afternoon with flyers promoting the Nelson Ave Gang I met Alina who was also distributing flyers for their holiday open house. Seeing an opportunity, I asked her if I could post the details here for the whole street and she was quite happy to allow this. Here’s the text of her cool flyer:

We would like to meet our neighbors
    And celebrate the season
So come join us for a cookie
