Nelson Avenue Gang

Last week an outdoor pipe burst at one of our neighbor’s houses. I and a bunch of people saw this but we had no way of contacting the neighbor telling them of the problem. Luckily none of the water got into the house and the fire department eventually came by and turned their water off at the main.

Partly in response to this event, there was a suggestion at Alina and Marc’s very successful holiday open house that we start an emergency contact list. I think this is a great suggestion and if you think so too, send me an email with your name, address, email and phone number and I’ll add you to the list.

I’ll send the list out to participants via email whenever there are updates. To maintain people’s privacy, I will NOT publicly post the list or provide a copy of it to anyone who is not on the list or a resident of Nelson Ave.

I’m getting the ball rolling but if you would like to help me out by maintaining the list once created, let me know – I’d be glad to have the help.

We’re such a technologically savvy street – we’ve even got an email listserv! How many other streets in Del Ray can say this?

To subscribe to the list, send an email to community-request@nelsonavegang.com with “subscribe” in the subject line (without the quotes). Check your spam or junk mail folder – we’ve noticed some of the emails ending up there.

Same rules apply to the list as to the website. Please keep emails on topic – the email list is for issues/announcements/discussions of interest to residents/others who live on or are interested in the Nelson Ave. community. If you have something to say which is of wider interest, use the DRCA email list.

And you thought The Rules was just a book for neurotic people… Here’s the rules for this website:

1. Don’t use bad words. If you aren’t sure, it probably is a bad word.
2. Don’t diss your neighbors. Treat each other with respect, this isn’t an elementary school playground.
3. Play nice. Although we will sometimes cover serious issues which people will be passionate about, we’re here to have fun and be a community. Trust, friendship and community can be destroyed a lot quicker than built so play nice.
4. No advertising. If you’re having a bake sale or yard sale that is one thing but don’t use this forum to advertise your business. I pay for this out of my own pocket and accept no advertising. If you want to advertise your business, take out an ad in the Del Ray Sun.

If you violate the rules I’ll warn you. If you repeatedly violate the rules, I’ll toss you outta here.
